DAR TAH TAH
Dar
(meaning a traditional town house)
Tah Tah can be found hidden down a
narrow street off Rue Rahba Kedima,
which leads into the old spice market.
Its position is exceptional, being
close to the main square of Jemaa
El Fna and only yards from the souks,
yet remaining a quiet haven in which
to retreat from the bustle of the
Medina.
It
has elements of both Moroccan and
French architecture with fine Moroccan
wall-décor done by local artisans:
-a pretty courtyard with fountain
and glass dome
-a roof terrace with views over the
city
-a large well-appointed salon with
fireplace

8 Derb Tah Tah
Seventies Marrakech lives again.
Review What a find, right in the middle
of the sorcerer's souq. Dar Tha Tha
is a slice of '70s Marrakesh that
has resisted renovation to preserve
its mismatched tiles and quirky French
colonial interior. Add the laid-back
atmosphere and communal kitchen and
this is a real home away from home.
It's also an excellent first stop
for any solo female travellers, as
it brings you to a very safe environment
right in the heart of the souq. The
house is tiny, with a Lilliputian
courtyard set up with table and chairs.
The sitting room could do with being
a bit more comfortable and colourful,
but the friendly, unpretentious atmosphere
is worth its weight in gold and each
of the four rooms are neat and homely.
Room No 3 (with air-con) is the largest,
but it's a touch dark due to the high
window. If you can, book Room No 4
(with air-con), which has its own
shaded terrace and is nice and bright.
Simo, who has a cookery diploma, can
cook you up a storm.
